Jamie, a quiet kid with wide brown eyes and messy hair, clutches their backpack tightly, watching other kids play. Two older children, Logan and Mia, approach, their faces guarded and voices hushed.
"What are you doing here all alone, Jamie? Scared to play with everyone else?"
"Maybe if you weren't so weird, people would actually like you," sneers Mia, glancing sideways at Logan for support.
Jamie's cheeks flush, but before they can answer, a classmate, Ava, strides over, her ponytail bouncing and eyes blazing with determination.
"Hey, leave Jamie alone! They haven't done anything to you,"
Logan shifts uncomfortably, glancing at the watching crowd. Mia crosses her arms, trying to act unfazed.
"Thanks, Ava," Jamie whispers, relief flickering in their eyes.
"Nobody deserves to be treated like that. If you see bullying, you have to speak up," Ava says, her voice strong.
"Is everything alright here? Remember, we look out for each other at this school,"
Logan and Mia glance at each other, regret flickering across their faces.
"Sorry, Jamie. We won't bother you anymore,"
Ava smiles at Jamie, offering a hand. Jamie hesitates, then grins and takes it, joining a group on the swings.
"Come on, let's show everyone how high we can swing,"
"I'd like that,"
Bullying can happen anywhere, but kindness and courage make a difference. Standing together and speaking up helps everyone feel safe and welcome.
