Bella skipped along the sidewalk, her backpack bouncing with each step. The sun warmed her face, and she couldn’t help but hum a happy tune. Suddenly, she spotted a small, fluffy dog with a wagging tail and a look of confusion in his eyes. "Hey there, little one. Are you lost?" she asked gently, crouching down to be at eye level with the dog.
The dog, now known as Leo, barked softly, as if to confirm Bella's suspicion. His collar jingled with a tag that was too scratched to read. "Don't worry, Leo. We'll find your home," Bella assured him. Together, they wandered past the bright yellow house with the red door, and the garden full of tulips where Mrs. Jenkins watered her plants. "Have you seen this dog before, Mrs. Jenkins?" Bella asked.
Bella and Leo reached the park, where children played tag and kites danced in the sky. Bella scanned the area, hoping to spot someone searching for a lost dog. "Maybe someone at the park has seen you before," she suggested to Leo. The dog pranced beside her, his eyes filled with hope.
A group of Bella's friends gathered around, intrigued by Leo. Sam, the tallest of them, knelt down to pet the dog. "He looks familiar. I think I've seen him near the blue house on Maple Street," Sam exclaimed. "Let's head there!" Bella decided, her heart full of determination.
As they approached the blue house, Leo's excitement grew. His tail wagged furiously, and he pulled Bella towards the gate. A woman stepped out, her eyes widening with relief. Mrs. Thompson, Leo's owner, rushed forward. "Leo! Thank heavens you're safe!" she exclaimed, wrapping her arms around the joyful dog.
Bella waved goodbye to Leo and Mrs. Thompson, feeling a warmth in her heart. "Thank you, Bella. You have a kind heart," Mrs. Thompson said gratefully. As Bella headed home, she realized she had gained a new friend and learned the true value of helping others. "What an adventure," she whispered to herself, looking forward to the stories tomorrow would bring.
