Sammy, a cheerful, curious boy with a red cap, zooms down the slide, his eyes twinkling with excitement. He waves to his friends and runs to the sandbox, where he starts building a towering castle. Everything feels safe and familiar, with parents chatting on nearby benches and the sun shining warmly overhead.
Mr. Grey, a stranger to the playground, calls out in a friendly voice, holding a colorful lollipop in his hand. "Hey there, would you like some candy? I have lots to share!" The children pause, glancing at each other uncertainly. Sammy remembers something important his teacher said about strangers.
"My mom always says never talk to strangers, even if they seem nice," Sammy whispers to his friend Lila, a clever girl with purple glasses. "Yeah, and don’t take anything from someone you don’t know," Lila replies, her eyes wide with concern. Together, they decide to stay with their friends and not go near the fence.
Sammy and Lila rush to Mrs. Rivera, who greets them with a warm smile. "Excuse me, Mrs. Rivera, there’s a stranger by the fence. He tried to give us candy, but we didn’t talk to him," Sammy explains, his voice steady. "You both did the right thing! I’ll make sure everyone stays safe," Mrs. Rivera assures them, giving a reassuring nod.
Lila turns to the group. "If you ever see someone you don’t know, remember to stay with your friends and tell a grown-up you trust," she says, her voice clear. Sammy adds, "And never take anything from strangers, no matter how nice they seem. Our safety is more important than any treat!" The children nod, promising to remember the lesson.
Sammy hugs his mom, feeling proud and safe. "I didn’t talk to the stranger today, just like you taught me," he says, grinning. His mom smiles and squeezes his hand, "That’s my brave boy. I’m so glad you remembered to stay safe." As the playground empties, the children wave goodbye, knowing they can always have fun—and be safe—by looking out for each other.
