Lila sat cross-legged on a checkered picnic blanket, her brow furrowed in concentration as she stared at the open book before her. Beside her, Biscuit, a golden retriever with a tail that wagged like a metronome, lay sprawled out, eyes attentive and ears perked.
"Biscuit, I just can't seem to get these words right," Lila sighed, running a hand through her curly hair.
Biscuit gave a soft bark of encouragement, his eyes filled with understanding.
"Alright, alright. Let's try again," Lila said, determination creeping back into her voice.
Holding the book tightly, Lila began to read aloud, each word a stepping stone across the river of her insecurities. Biscuit trotted beside her, his presence a comforting anchor in the vast ocean of unknown words.
"And then the little brown bear said...," Lila paused, a smile spreading across her face as she realized she had read the sentence flawlessly.
Biscuit barked in approval, his tail wagging furiously.
"I did it, Biscuit! I really did it!" she exclaimed, hugging him tightly.
Lila and Biscuit found a quiet bench, the book now closed but clutched lovingly in her hands. "Thank you for listening, Biscuit. You're the best reading buddy ever," Lila whispered, resting her head against him.
Biscuit lay his head on her lap, his presence as reassuring as the soft evening breeze.
With newfound confidence, Lila knew tomorrow would bring another adventure with Biscuit by her side, ready to turn each page and conquer every word together. The path ahead was lined with stories waiting to be read, and with Biscuit, she was ready for every single one.
