Lila wore her favorite sunny day dress and a flower headband, her eyes gleaming with excitement. Max, in his adventure outfit, stood beside her, eager to explore. They looked around, spotting their friend Oliver, sitting alone on a bench with his sketchbook.
"Hey, Oliver! Want to join us on the swings?" Lila called out, waving enthusiastically.
Oliver, a shy boy with a gentle smile, hesitated before nodding. Max ran over to him, giving him a friendly pat on the back. "We’ll have a blast together!" Max assured.
Lila frowned, noticing the scene. Max clenched his fists, ready to step in. "That’s not nice," Lila said softly, exchanging a determined glance with Max.
"Let’s go talk to them," Max suggested, leading the way.
"Hey, it’s not cool to make fun of someone because of their glasses," Max said firmly. "Everyone is special in their own way," Lila added with a smile.
The teasing kids looked ashamed, and one by one, they apologized. The boy with the glasses, feeling braver, smiled gratefully at Lila and Max.
"Thanks for standing up for him," Oliver said quietly, sketchbook still in hand.
"That’s what friends do," Lila replied, grinning at Max.
"We always stick together," Max added, pumping his legs to swing higher.
"Let’s promise to always be there for each other," Lila suggested, holding out her pinky finger.
"Pinky promise," Max and Oliver chorused, linking fingers with Lila.
As they watched the sun dip below the horizon, they knew they had learned the true meaning of friendship—standing up for one another, no matter what.
