Milo sat on the couch, watching his older sister Lila and younger brother Ollie receive the usual morning attention. He sighed, feeling like the invisible string holding the family together, yet unnoticed.
"Maybe today will be different," Milo whispered to himself, hope flickering in his eyes.
Lila was sharing her latest school project, a papier-mâché volcano, while Ollie giggled at his own messy attempt to eat pancakes.
Milo attempted to share a story about his art class, but his voice was drowned out by the noise. "And then we..." He trailed off, realizing no one was listening.
"Pass the syrup, please," Lila said, inadvertently interrupting him.
Milo decided to escape outside, where he often found solace. He wandered to the oak tree, his favorite spot, and began to sketch in his notebook.
"Here, under this tree, I'm the king," Milo declared to the imaginary subjects in his mind.
[@ch_1]As he drew, a breeze rustled the leaves, inspiring a new story for his secret journal—a place where his thoughts were never overlooked.
Ollie wandered out, curious about what Milo was doing.
"What are you drawing?" Ollie asked, peering over his shoulder.
Milo hesitated but then smiled. "It's an adventure story! Want to join in?"
"Yes!" Ollie exclaimed, eyes gleaming with excitement.
Together, they crafted tales of knights and dragons, Milo's voice finally heard and appreciated.
Lila joined them, intrigued by the laughter and excitement.
"We just battled a dragon!" Ollie shouted, bouncing with enthusiasm.
"I want to hear more," Lila said, settling down beside them.
Milo beamed, feeling the warmth of being the center of attention for a change, as he shared their adventure with his siblings.
Milo sat contentedly, surrounded by his family, no longer feeling like the invisible child. He realized that his stories, his voice, made him special.
"Being in the middle isn't so bad after all," Milo mused, a satisfied smile on his face.
"We're lucky to have you, Milo," Lila said, wrapping her arm around him.
The night wrapped its gentle arms around their home, and for Milo, being the middle child was the best adventure of all.
