Mittens, a fluffy gray kitten with bright green eyes, sat eagerly in front of the screen, her tiny paws poised over the keyboard. "I'm ready to win!" she said to herself, her whiskers twitching with anticipation. The library was silent except for the soft rustle of pages as an occasional breeze fluttered through.
Mittens answered each question with determination, her fluffy tail flicking back and forth as she concentrated. Yet, as the game progressed, her confidence began to waver. "Oh no, I don't know this one," she mumbled, her ears flattening slightly. Despite her best efforts, the leaderboard showed her slipping further and further behind.
Mittens stared at the screen, her whiskers drooping. "I can't believe it," she whispered, tears welling up in her eyes. The once vibrant library seemed to dim around her, the cheerful colors now muted and somber.
Mittens couldn't contain her frustration, her eyes glistening with tears. "Why did I have to come last?" she cried out, her voice a mixture of sadness and disbelief. The once orderly library was now a whirlwind of scattered pencils and crumpled pages.
"Mittens, it's okay to not win every time," her dad purred soothingly. "The important thing is that you tried and had fun." He padded over to her, his presence calming like a warm blanket on a cold day.
"Maybe you're right," she said softly, her voice steadier now. Mittens took a deep breath, her fluffy tail wrapping around her as she settled down beside him. Together, they watched the sunlight dance through the stained glass, a new game waiting to begin.
