Pablo stomped his feet, making the snow crunch beneath his boots, his breath puffing in the cold air.
Uniqua rolled a giant snowball, her mittens covered in powder, while Tyrone stacked blocks of snow into a tall, wobbly wall.
"This is going to be the best snow fort ever!"
"Just wait until we finish, then we can have a snowball battle," Uniqua replied, her eyes twinkling.
Tyrone froze, his mouth open as the others turned to see the creature.
"D-d-did you see that?!" Pablo stammered, pointing with a trembling mitten.
"It's a snow monster!" Uniqua squeaked, her voice barely above a whisper.
All three dropped their snowballs and bolted, slipping and sliding across the icy yard, their hearts pounding with fright.

Pablo gasped for breath, cheeks flushed.
"Geo, you have to help us! There’s a snow monster in our backyard," Pablo pleaded.
"A snow monster? Tell me exactly what you saw," Geo replied, adjusting his blue cap, his face full of concern.
"It was huge, and white, and it moved right through the snow drifts!" Uniqua exclaimed.
"We were so scared, we ran as fast as we could," Tyrone added.

"Let’s look for clues—see these footprints? They’re big, but look closely," Geo said, crouching down.
"There’s a scarf stuck on that branch! It looks just like Austin’s," Uniqua pointed, hope flickering in her eyes.
"Wait, I hear something behind the tree," Pablo whispered, as all four crept closer, hearts thumping.

Austin: The shy, thoughtful purple kangaroo, dressed for warmth but now looking sheepish.
"Oh! Um, hi everyone. I was trying to surprise you with a snow costume, but I got a little… stuck," Austin admitted, cheeks pink beneath his hat.
"You were the snow monster?" Tyrone asked, relief flooding his voice.
"Mystery solved! It was just Austin all along," Geo announced, grinning.
"Next time, warn us before you become a snow monster, okay?" Uniqua teased, sipping her cocoa.
"Deal! But maybe next time, we can all be snow monsters together," Austin replied, smiling warmly.
"With Geo helping us, we can solve any mystery," Pablo said, as they all watched the stars appear above the snowy world, feeling safe and happy.
