Max, a small boy with wild brown hair and mismatched socks, stands in the middle of the kitchen holding an empty cookie jar. His eyes are wide with confusion and worry as he stares at the purple goo on his hands.
"I swear, Mom, I didn't eat all the cookies! It was...um...the monsters!"
His mom only raises an eyebrow and points to the sticky mess. Max sighs and glances nervously at the basement door, which gives a suspicious creak.
Mungo, the fuzzy six-eyed monster, lobs a whipped cream pie across the room, splattering it on an old lampshade.
Ziggle, the rainbow-striped wiggly monster, giggles uncontrollably as he bounces off a laundry basket, scattering socks everywhere.
Tiny Toots, the miniature, big-eared mischief-maker, is busy stuffing jelly beans into a trumpet.
"Whoever gets the most pies stuck to the ceiling wins!"
"And whoever gets Max in trouble the most wins the Monster Mischief Medal!"
They cackle and high-five with sticky, gooey hands, plotting their next prank.
"Dad, I promise, I didn't paint the cat green! It was the monsters again!"
Dad just shakes his head, trying to peel a banana peel off his shoe. From behind the couch, Mungo, Ziggle, and Tiny Toots peek out, struggling not to giggle as they wave the Monster Mischief Medal in the air.
Max scribbles furiously, mumbling to himself.
"If the monsters love messes and mischief... maybe they'll hate being bored and tidy!"
He sets up a series of traps: a super-boring math puzzle on the hallway floor, piles of socks to fold, and a vacuum cleaner with googly eyes.
"Wait, are we supposed to fold these socks?"
"And...do math? Ew, numbers make my fur itch!"
"I think I'm allergic to neatness! Ah-choo!"
The monsters shudder, whimper, and try to tiptoe backward, but Max is waiting with a tray of healthy broccoli snacks. Their eyes grow wide with horror.
"If you promise to stop getting me in trouble, you can have this medal and come up for cookies. But only if you help clean up!"
The monsters exchange glances, then break into grins.
"Deal! No more trouble. Well, maybe just a little bit..."
They burst into laughter, and Max joins in, knowing that life with monsters might always be silly—but at least now, they’re all in it together.
