Max, wearing his oversized clown costume, a big red rubber nose, and his favourite yellow tie with purple polka dots, sits slumped on the edge of the couch. Fat teardrops roll down his cheeks, leaving shiny streaks on his painted face. Next to him, Loonette, her black curly hair gathered in pigtails beneath a purple hat, her own red clown nose perched perfectly, watches her little brother with concern.
"Loonette, I'm just a sad little boy clown today," he sniffles, voice trembling, "I miss Mom and Dad. Marigold and Jasper are so far away, making other clowns happy. But I want them here, with me."
"Oh Max, I know it's tough when Marigold and Jasper are away. But they love us so much, and they're working hard to spread joy to clowns everywhere," she says softly, her voice gentle and soothing. "We're never really alone when we have each other. And you know what? The Big Comfy Couch is always here for big feelings."
Max sniffles again, looking up at his sister with watery eyes.
"Loonette, do you think all my friends from clowndergarten could come over? Even Tina, my best friend? Maybe if the little clowns are here, they can cheer me up and make me a happy little boy clown again," Max asks, hope flickering in his voice.
Loonette smiles, her nose crinkling with delight. "That's a wonderful idea, Max! The more clowns, the merrier. Let's call your friends and have a clown-tastic afternoon right here on the Big Comfy Couch."
"I'll dial up Tina and the rest of your clowndergarten friends. We'll make sure today is extra silly and special," Loonette assures, grabbing the clown-shaped phone and dialing. The sounds of ringing and giggling begin to fill the room as invitations are accepted with squeals of delight.
Tina, Max's best friend, leads the way, balancing on a purple ball and tossing juggling pins into the air. The other little clowns tumble in, laughter bubbling up as they share silly stories and perform playful tricks. The room explodes with happiness, the couch bouncing under the weight of so many giggling clowns.
Max beams, surrounded by friends and his loving sister, no longer a sad little boy clown. "Thank you, Loonette. Thank you, everyone. I feel so much better now," he says, hugging Loonette tight.
"That's what clown family and friends are for, Max. Whenever you're sad, we'll always find a way to bring back the happy," Loonette replies, her eyes twinkling.
The Big Comfy Couch glows with warmth and laughter, a perfect place for clowns to share their hearts and heal together.
