Bob had just pushed another boy off the swing, and the other children watched nervously, unsure of what to do. Suddenly, a gentle whoosh of wings swept through the air, and Flamey, his pet dragon, landed softly beside him. Flamey was a sight to behold—emerald scales glinting in the sunlight, with eyes full of wisdom and kindness. "Bob, why not let others have a turn?" the dragon suggested, nudging him gently with its snout. "I don't want to," Bob retorted, a stubborn frown on his face.
Bob tripped a girl as she ran past, causing her to fall and scrape her knee. The laughter abruptly turned to cries, and once again, Flamey intervened. The dragon hovered over Bob, its wings creating a gentle breeze. "Bob, look at how she feels," Flamey urged, gesturing toward the girl who was now being comforted by her friends. "I just wanted to be faster," Bob mumbled, feeling a pang of guilt.
He snatched a paper from a classmate's desk and tore it, laughing as the other child’s eyes welled with tears. Just then, Flamey appeared by the window, its presence a calming influence. "Bob, see the sadness you cause," Flamey said softly, and for the first time, Bob truly looked at the hurt expression on his classmate's face. "I didn’t mean to make anyone sad," Bob whispered, realization dawning upon him.
Bob considered all the times Flamey had shown him the consequences of his actions. "I think I understand now," Bob confessed, looking at his dragon friend. "Being mean doesn’t make me feel good inside." Flamey nodded, its eyes twinkling with approval. "Kindness can bring more joy than you imagine," Flamey replied.
At the playground, he approached the children he had wronged. "I’m sorry for what I did," Bob said earnestly, offering to help the boy on the swing and play fair in games. The children, surprised but pleased, accepted his apology and welcomed him to join in their play. Flamey watched from a distance, proud of the change in its young friend.
Bob felt a warmth in his heart that he hadn't known before, a feeling of belonging and friendship. "Thank you, Flamey, for helping me see," he said with gratitude. "You did it yourself, Bob," the dragon replied, nudging him affectionately. Together, they drifted off to sleep, dreaming of more adventures filled with kindness and joy.
