Once upon a time, in a little village nestled among lush green hills, there lived a young shepherd boy. Every day, his job was to take the village sheep to the grassy meadows and watch over them to keep them safe. "It's such a boring job," he would often sigh as he sat on a rock, looking at the fluffy sheep nibbling on the grass.
The boy, feeling rather bored, thought of a way to entertain himself. "What if I cried 'Wolf! Wolf!' and watched everyone come running?" he wondered with a cheeky grin. So, he stood up and shouted as loudly as he could, "Wolf! Wolf! There's a wolf chasing the sheep!"
Hearing his cries, the villagers dropped what they were doing and hurried to the meadow, ready to protect the sheep. But when they arrived, they found no wolf at all. The boy laughed and laughed, finding their worried faces very funny. "I fooled you all!" he giggled.
A few days later, the boy decided to play the same trick again. "Wolf! Wolf! There's really a wolf this time!" he screamed, louder than before. Once again, the villagers dashed to the meadow, only to find the boy laughing at them. "You're too easy to fool!" he jeered.
But one day, as the boy watched the sheep, a real wolf crept out of the forest. Terrified, the boy shouted, "Wolf! Wolf! Please help! A wolf is attacking the sheep!" This time, the villagers did not rush to his aid. They thought he was trying to trick them again.
The wolf scattered the sheep, and the boy was left to chase them all day long. When he returned to the village, the villagers shook their heads. "No one believes a liar, even when they tell the truth," they said gently. The boy learned a valuable lesson that day, promising never to tell lies again. From then on, he was known as the most truthful shepherd in the village.
