Lena sat at her desk, her eyes fixed on the math problem in front of her. Her heart pounded as Mrs. Thompson asked the class for answers. Around her, classmates raised their hands eagerly. Lena wished she could join them, but the words seemed to stick in her throat.
"Anyone else want to give it a try?" Mrs. Thompson encouraged, her gentle eyes scanning the room.
Lena wandered alone near the edge of the playground, watching a group play tag. She found comfort in the solitude, yet her heart ached for connection. Suddenly, a soft whimper caught her attention. Peering through the fence, she spotted a small, trembling puppy, its eyes wide and lost.
"Oh no, you're all alone," Lena murmured, crouching down to the puppy's level.
Lena felt a surge of determination. She looked back towards the school building, knowing she had to act. Summoning courage from deep within, she dashed back inside to find Mrs. Thompson.
"Mrs. Thompson, there's a puppy outside, and it needs help!" Lena exclaimed, her voice louder than she'd ever heard before.
Mrs. Thompson looked at Lena with a proud smile. "Let's see what we can do," she said, picking up the phone to call the local animal shelter.
Lena stood by her, her heart swelling with a mix of anxiety and excitement. She had spoken up, and it mattered.
Lena felt a warmth spread through her as she waved goodbye to the puppy. Mrs. Thompson placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder.
"Your voice made a difference today, Lena," Mrs. Thompson said softly.
Lena entered the classroom with a newfound confidence. As Mrs. Thompson began the lesson, Lena raised her hand, ready to share not just answers, but her thoughts and feelings too. The shy girl had found her voice, and with it, a world of possibilities.
