Benny the Bee darted from blossom to blossom, pollen dusting his tiny legs and wings flickering in a blur. He zigzagged across the field, determined to help every flower he could find. As he worked, the other bees watched with growing concern, noticing his frantic pace.
Maya, the Wise Bee, watched from a lavender sprig, her eyes gentle but worried.
"Benny, you know you don't have to do it all. The meadow is big, and there are plenty of us to help,"
"But if I slow down, someone might miss out! I want to make everyone happy," Benny replied, barely pausing before zooming off again.
Despite his exhaustion, Benny zipped into the celebration, determined not to miss a moment. He danced, chatted, and even tried to help serve honey, though his wings were starting to droop. Every time someone invited him to join a new game or help with another task, he said yes without thinking.
Pip, the Playful Bee, nudged him gently.
"Benny, you look tired! Why not take a break?"
"There's no time! Everyone’s counting on me," Benny insisted, forcing a weary smile.
The world spun as Benny tried to catch his breath. The scent of crushed clover filled his senses, and his legs felt too heavy to move. Bees from the hive gathered around, murmuring with concern, their antennae brushing his shoulders comfortingly.
Maya landed beside him, her voice warm and steady.
"It's all right, Benny. Even the busiest bees need to rest. You don’t have to do everything alone,"
Benny listened as Maya explained how bees share their work, and how taking turns helps every flower bloom. He realized that always saying yes had left him too tired to enjoy the things he loved. With a small smile, he promised himself to try something new: setting boundaries.
"Maybe I can help a few flowers, and join one game—not every single one. That way, I’ll have energy to really enjoy them," Benny whispered, feeling lighter already.
This time, Benny politely declined extra tasks, explaining he needed to rest and save energy for the things that mattered most. He played a fun game with Pip, then stretched out on a petal to watch the clouds drift by. For the first time, he felt truly happy—not for doing everything, but for doing just enough.
"Thank you for helping me find balance, Maya,"
"You did it yourself, Benny. Remember, even busy bees need to rest,"
Benny closed his eyes, grateful for the lessons he’d learned. He knew now that saying “no” sometimes meant saying “yes” to himself—and that was the best way to help his friends and flowers. The gentle hum of the hive lulled him to sleep, promising new adventures and balanced days ahead.
