Liam, a cheerful boy of eight, skips across the hot pavement, his toes wiggling inside his favorite blue socks, both tucked inside worn-out sandals. He can barely contain his excitement, eyes wide as he surveys the colorful maze of water attractions. His mom waves from a shaded bench, reminding him to keep track of his things. "Don’t forget where you put your shoes and socks, Liam!"
Liam races toward the nearest fountain, not noticing that his socks are still snug on his feet under the sandals. He leaps through a curtain of water, feeling the cool shock drench his legs, the fabric clinging and heavy. With each splash, his socks soak up more water, turning a darker shade of blue. "This is amazing! I want to try the big slide next!"
Liam grins as he flops down beside his pile of belongings—towel, hat, and backpack. He wiggles his toes, suddenly realizing that his feet feel oddly soggy. He glances around, confused, then kneels to dig through his bag, searching for his socks. "Wait… Where did I put my socks?"
He retraces his steps, checking under the bench and by the snack bar, but his socks are nowhere to be seen. It’s only when he looks down that he spots the sodden blue lumps clinging to his feet, dripping rivulets onto the concrete. "Oh! I never took them off!"
He holds them up, sighing as water streams down his arms. He tries to wring them out, twisting with all his might, but the fabric remains stubbornly damp. "How am I supposed to dry these?" Nearby, a group of kids giggle, watching his predicament.
Liam lays his socks on a warm rock, hoping the sun will do the trick, but they remain wet and cold. He finally shrugs, slipping his bare feet into his sandals and laughing at himself. "Next time, socks off before the water!" His mom smiles, handing him a dry towel as they gather their things, and together they leave the park, ready to tell the story of the day the socks went swimming.
