Soojin, a bright-eyed, quick-witted woodcutter, hums while polishing his axe near the hearth. His grandmother, Halmeoni, knits by the window, her silver hair glowing in the golden light. Outside, birds flit and petals drift lazily on the breeze.
"Soojin, remember, kindness and cleverness will take you further than any sharp blade,"
"Of course, Halmeoni! But a sharp blade helps with stubborn firewood,"
They both laugh, filling the cottage with warmth.
Soojin ventures out, axe slung over his shoulder, whistling a tune. Suddenly, a rustle—he spots a magnificent, lion-like beast with shimmering blue fur tangled in a hunter’s trap. The creature’s eyes brim with sadness and fear.
"Oh no, you poor thing! Don’t worry, I’ll help,"
He gently cuts the ropes, freeing the beast. The creature bows its head in gratitude and bounds away, leaving behind a single iridescent feather.
As Soojin examines the feather, the beast appears once more, but this time, it speaks with a gentle, rumbling voice.
Beast, the Celestial Beast, introduces itself, revealing that it is under a celestial curse and can only return to its true form if someone chooses to stay by its side out of genuine friendship, not pity or fear.
"You saved me, Soojin. Would you... keep me company for a while?"
"Company? As long as you like! But only if you help wash the dishes,"
They both laugh, and the garden glows brighter with their shared joy.
Beast tells tales of celestial lands and longing, while Soojin recounts humorous mishaps in the forest. Each day, the Beast’s monstrous features soften, and Soojin’s heart grows fonder.
"You know, you tell the best stories. Almost as good as my Halmeoni’s ghost tales,"
"Maybe one day, I’ll meet her and swap recipes for dreams,"
Their laughter echoes into the starry night.
"Will you choose adventure among the stars, or stay with an old beast in a little cottage?"
Soojin looks at the wings, then at his friend, and grins.
"Who needs wings when you have tea, cakes, and a beast who’s really just a softie?"
The wings shimmer and dissolve, replaced by a dazzling burst of light. The Beast transforms into a celestial maiden, Ara, her beauty radiant and kind.
Ara thanks Soojin for his friendship and clever heart, and together, they show that true beauty shines brightest in kindness, humor, and the courage to choose love over adventure.
"See, Soojin? The best magic is made with a little wit and a lot of heart,"
The three friends laugh, as the sun rises and the world feels a little more enchanted.
