Caleb walked through the illuminated pathways, his heart swelling with pride and excitement. Carly, a year older and always a bit more composed, followed closely, her eyes sparkling with the reflected lights. Ryan, Caleb's uncle, lingered a bit behind, a nostalgic smile playing on his lips as he adjusted his neon vest.
"Okay, so me, her, and me are here at the Christmas lights," Caleb announced, pointing to his companions with a grin. Carly rolled her eyes but couldn't suppress a smile at his enthusiasm. Ryan took in the scene with a sense of wonder, his thoughts drifting between past and present.
"So here’s what the inside of one of these little dioramas looks like," Caleb pointed out, his voice a mix of confidence and curiosity. Ryan nodded, his gaze lingering on a tiny church, while Carly paced ahead, taking in the details with her usual practicality.
"Looks like the kind of place I'd want to go," Ryan murmured, his voice tinged with nostalgia. Caleb smiled at his uncle, understanding the sentiment. "Those were the days," he replied softly, the lights around them a testament to their shared journey.
"It’s made out of exhaust pipes and the chain from a motorcycle. That’s pretty cool," Caleb commented, his excitement undimmed. Ryan chuckled, pointing to inflatable reindeer that reminded him of his childhood. "Yeah, those reindeer look... just like the ones in the yard when I was younger," he said, his eyes bright with memories.
"We did good," Carly remarked, her voice softening as she glanced at Caleb. He nodded, his heart full of gratitude and pride. "I’m sure Grandma will be happy with this footage," he said, capturing the final moments with his phone. Together, they walked away, leaving behind a trail of light and laughter that would linger long after the displays were taken down.
