Ms. Rivera, the kind teacher with a warm smile and sparkling earrings, welcomes her students as they arrive. Today feels special, as everyone seems excited for a new friend joining the class. The room buzzes with curiosity and happiness, crayons and storybooks scattered across the tables.
Eli, the new student, steps inside, looking around shyly. Ms. Rivera kneels to greet him, her voice gentle and encouraging.
"Welcome, Eli! We’re so happy you’re here. Would you like to sit with us on the carpet?"
"Okay," he whispers, hugging his plush fox a little tighter.

Lila, a bubbly girl with pigtails, scoots closer to Eli and offers him a shiny red block. Owen, who loves to draw, sketches quietly but keeps glancing at their new classmate. "Hi Eli, your fox is super cute! Does it have a name?"
"His name is Spark," Eli replies, his voice growing steadier. "Maybe Spark can help us build a castle," suggests Owen, holding out a blue block.

Ms. Rivera holds up a big book titled “All Kinds of Friends,” her voice calm and warm. "Sometimes, our friends might think, move, or play a little differently, and that’s what makes our classroom so special," she says. The children listen closely, some nodding, others thinking quietly. "Eli has autism, which means he might need quiet time, or like to play in his own way, but he’s just as wonderful as everyone here," she explains.

Lila and Owen join Eli, each picking up a brush. "Can we paint with you, Eli? Maybe Spark can be in our picture too," Lila asks. Eli smiles, nodding, as the three children work together, splashing colors and laughter across the paper. Their painting grows into a bright mural of a castle, a fox, and three friends holding hands.

Ms. Rivera takes a picture of the new friends, her eyes shining with pride. "See how beautiful it is when we all work together and accept each other for who we are," she says. The classroom feels warmer, filled with the joy of belonging, where every difference is celebrated and every child is welcomed with open arms.
