Luma stands at her window, her nose pressed against the cool glass, eyes wide with disbelief as she searches for the familiar arc of the rainbow. The playground outside—usually a riot of color—looks like a faded photograph. She grabs her backpack and a sketchbook, determined to find out where the colors have gone.
"Something’s wrong. The world’s forgotten how to smile," she whispers, stepping out to begin her quest.
Luma treads carefully, following a faint trail of sparkles. She soon stumbles upon a peculiar sight—a volcano glowing with embers, its heat radiating but its flames a dark, smoky gray. As she approaches, the air grows heavy with the scent of burnt cinnamon.
Red, the color of passion and fire, emerges from the volcano’s mouth—her edges flickering with irritation, her usual brightness muted.
"Red, why are you hiding here?"
"I’m tired of being everyone’s anger and love. I want to be something else, for once," Red sighs, casting a longing look at the empty sky.
Blue, swirling like misty waves, floats above the water. She wraps Luma in a gentle, cool embrace—a hug that feels like both comfort and loneliness.
"Blue, do you miss the sky?"
"I do. But I’m more than sadness and rainy days. I want to be the color of excitement, or even surprise," Blue’s voice ripples, hopeful.
Yellow, usually radiant, sits quietly atop a rock, her aura dimmed.
"Yellow, you look tired,"
"I’m always expected to be cheerful. Sometimes, I just want to rest, or even be serious," she admits, her smile wan.
"I understand," Luma says gently, her voice carrying hope. "But what if you could be more? What if, for one day, you swapped your meanings? Let purple be giggles, green be shyness, and orange take a day off—let the world see how wonderful and surprising you all are."
The colors exchange glances, curiosity sparking in their eyes for the first time.
Children laugh as purple balloons float overhead, carrying peals of joy; green leaves rustle bashfully in the breeze. People marvel as the sky flashes with new combinations, each moment a surprise. Luma watches, her heart swelling with pride, as the world learns to feel differently.
Red glows gently as courage; Blue sparkles with laughter; Yellow radiates calm.
"See? You’re all more than anyone imagined,"
The townsfolk gaze upward, smiles blooming as the colors dance and change, each one a reminder that feelings—and people—are never just one thing.
"Don’t let anyone box you in," she whispers. "We’re all a mix of colors, and that’s what makes us beautiful."
