Mia sits up in bed, rubbing her eyes, bewildered by the lack of red rooftops and golden sunlight. Her room, too, is colorless—her favorite purple blanket and green chair as gray as the rest of the world.
"Oh no! Where did all the colors go?"
With determination, Mia grabs her trusty backpack, tucks her magnifying glass into her pocket, and puts on her bravest face. She notices a faint, sparkling trail of glitter dust leading out of town, shimmering just enough to stand out in the grayness.
Mia crouches down, peering behind the rock, and finds Red, a small, feisty blob glowing faintly in the gray.
"I’m tired of being the color of stop signs," Red huffs, looking away. "But you ARE exciting. You’re the color of apples, fire trucks, and superhero capes."
Red's eyes widen. "Superhero capes? I never thought of that!" With a burst of enthusiasm, Red sparkles brighter and zooms back toward town, trailing a line of ruby light in his wake.
Mia[/@ch_1] past a misty pond, its surface rippling under a silvery breeze. On the water floats Blue, the color of oceans and sky, but now dim and droopy, casting barely a reflection.]
Mia kneels by the water’s edge. Blue sighs, a tiny teardrop forming.
"I’m always the color of sad things. I want to be happy for once."
"But you’re the color of oceans, blueberries, and the biggest, brightest sky. You’re what makes everything feel endless and magical."
Blue's frown melts into a shy smile. "The sky IS pretty amazing." He drifts up, leaving a swirl of blue sparkles behind, and floats gently back to Rainbow Ridge.
Yellow[/@ch_4], glowing nervously, tries to blend in with the faded grass.]
Mia approaches softly. "I’m scared I’m too bright. What if I shine too much and everyone gets tired of me?"
"You’re sunshine! You’re giggles! You’re the color that makes everyone smile when the world feels heavy."
Yellow lifts her head, beaming so brilliantly that the whole field begins to glow, chasing away the shadows. "I guess shining is what I do best!" And off Yellow zips, leaving rays of gold behind.
Green[/@ch_5] hiding under a leaf, Purple curled around a pebble, Orange nestled in a pumpkin patch, and Pink tucked inside a faded flower. Each color shares a worry—too plain, too silly, too wild, or too soft.]
Mia listens to each, offering words of understanding and encouragement.
"You matter. The world needs you exactly as you are. Without you, Rainbow Ridge just isn’t the same."
One by one, the colors grow braver and brighter, swirling around Mia as she leads them back toward town.
The colors gather around Mia, swirling in a joyful cyclone.
"Thank you for reminding us how special we are," "We’ll never run away again."
Mia grins, her eyes sparkling. "Promise you’ll always remember—every color is important. And so is every child."
Red salutes, Blue bows, Yellow shines, and all the colors cheer, their laughter echoing through the now-permanent rainbow that arches over Rainbow Ridge.
