Lila Meadows stood alone, her petite and athletic frame silhouetted against the afternoon sun, her freckles and big eyes catching the light. Her red boots for adventure were planted firmly on the ground as she watched her mother’s car disappear down the dusty road, heart aching with longing. Max Meadows broke the silence, his tall and strong figure casting a playful shadow on the grass.
"So, the city girl finally made it to the farm. Do you even know what mud is?"
Min Meadows nudged him, her bright smile trying to suppress a laugh.
"Max, stop. You’re not helping."
Poppy Meadows, with her adventurous spirit, ran up to Lila, her eyes bright with curiosity, offering a silent welcome.
Lila struggled with the farm chores, her casual farm attire getting smudged with dirt as her eagerness to learn was evident despite her clumsiness. As she attempted to carry a bucket of water, Buttercup bounded over, causing a splash. Max leaned against the stall door, a mischievous grin on his face.
"Maybe we should get her training wheels for the farm."
Min tried to help, instructing Lila on the proper technique.
Iris, the farm’s guardian, flicked her tail dramatically when Lila approached with a brush.
Lila had stormed off to the cedar tree, freckles catching the light as she dug absently with a small spade. She struck something solid and brushed away the dirt to uncover a stone etched with glowing symbols. Her eyes widened with wonder.
Max and Min joined her, curiosity piqued.
"What is that?"
Min whispered, reaching out to touch it.
The stone’s activation sent the farm into chaos. Buttercup leaped joyfully, Iris stomped her hoof, and Cluckie the Hen corralled her chicks like a drill sergeant. Mr. Oink snorted, sniffing around eagerly. Sky the Pigeon fluttered down, mimicking Min's voice,
"What is THAT?"
Iris stepped forward, her voice commanding calm.
"I’ve heard of this relic before. It connects humans and animals, but only those with a special bond."
Min frowned.
"Special bond? We argue all the time."
As the trio sat beneath the cedar tree, Max grinned mischievously.
"This farm just got a lot more interesting."
Min nodded, her mind buzzing with plans.
"And a lot more work."
Lila hummed softly, her soothing voice blending with the whispers of the trees and the gentle sounds of the animals preparing for the night.
