Lily was tapping her pencil on her desk, trying to focus on her math worksheet. But her mind kept wandering to the science fair project that was due next week. Max, her best friend, leaned over from the desk beside her.
"Hey, Lily, have you decided what we're doing for the science fair?"
"I was thinking something with potions, maybe a potion that changes colors," Lily replied, trying not to look at Tina, the class bully, who was sitting two rows ahead.
Lily and Max huddled over their table, mixing ingredients with great care. Tina sauntered over, her eyes gleaming with mischief.
"Whatcha making, losers? A potion to make you less lame?" Tina sneered.
"No, it's a color-changing potion, and it's going to be awesome," Lily shot back, trying to sound more confident than she felt.
Lily and Max sat on a bench, reviewing their notes and the ingredients they needed for their potion. Max looked up at the sky with a dreamy expression.
"You know, Lily, I bet those clouds could use some color-changing magic too," he mused.
"Yeah, and maybe we can use some of that magic to keep Tina away," Lily added with a grin.
Lily and Max stood proudly by their table, where a series of potions shimmered in glass vials. Tina wandered nearby, trying to suppress her curiosity.
"Ready, Lily?" Max asked, holding up a vial of their latest creation.
"Let's do this," Lily nodded, as they poured the potion into a clear bowl. The liquid swirled and changed from blue to green to purple, drawing gasps from the crowd.
Lily felt a sense of accomplishment as she clutched the ribbon they had won for their project. Max was still bubbling with excitement.
"We did it, Lily! Our potion was a hit!"
"Yeah, and even Tina looked impressed for once," Lily laughed, thinking that maybe school wasn't so bad after all.
Lily picked up her pen, smiling as she began to write about their adventure at the science fair. She had learned that with a little magic—and a lot of friendship—anything was possible.
