Benny, a scruffy brown mutt with a white patch on his nose, sits on the edge of the porch, eyes fixed on a pair of sparrows fluttering overhead. His tail thumps with anticipation as he watches them soar.
"One day, I’ll fly just like you," Benny muses aloud, the words drifting into the gentle morning breeze.
Benny crouches low, paws digging into the soft earth as he prepares for takeoff. He runs in circles, ears flapping, his heart pounding with hope. The sparrows pause on a branch, watching with curious eyes as Benny leaps into the air, legs stretched wide.
"Here I go! Up, up, and away!"
But gravity wins, and Benny lands with a soft thud in the grass. He shakes himself off, undeterred, and gazes upward as the sparrows take flight again. The wind rustles the leaves gently, as if encouraging him to try once more.
"Maybe I just need more practice," Benny says, determination flickering in his gaze.
He pads over to investigate, nose twitching with curiosity. The child kneels beside Benny, smiling as they hold the paper plane aloft. Together, they toss it into the breeze, watching as it dances on the wind.
"If that little plane can fly, maybe I can too," Benny whispers, hope blossoming anew.
Lucy[/@ch_2], joins him in the yard, her laughter bright and warm. Fireflies begin to flicker in the growing dusk, and Lucy ties a red scarf loosely around Benny’s neck, like a superhero’s cape.]
"Ready for another flight attempt, Benny?" she asks, her voice full of encouragement.
Benny wags his tail, heart swelling with joy. With Lucy cheering him on, he races through the yard, cape fluttering behind him, chasing dreams beneath the stars.
"Maybe I can’t fly like a bird," Benny thinks, "but with you by my side, I feel lighter than air."
Lucy strokes Benny’s fur gently, and together they drift into dreams—soaring above the clouds, free and fearless, carried by hope and friendship.
