Nestled among ancient trunks, Little Pine stretches his branches, longing for a world he’s only glimpsed in stories whispered by the wind. The forest is still, but Little Pine’s heart is restless, his dreams reaching beyond the snowy clearing. "What lies beyond the forest’s edge? Do the stars shine brighter out there?"
The oldest tree, Grand Fir, rustles softly, his bark rough and wise. "The world outside sparkles with wonders and dangers, Little Pine," he murmurs, his voice a deep rumble. "But I want to see it for myself, even just once," Little Pine replies, his voice trembling with both hope and fear.
Shadows flicker as the Woodcutters draw near, their coats bright against the snow. Little Pine watches as his neighbors are marked with red ribbons—chosen to fulfill their holiday destinies. "Will I be chosen too? Is this my chance to see the world?"
Little Pine trembles as Grand Fir leans close, his branches brushing reassuringly. "No matter where you go, carry the forest within you," he urges. Little Pine gazes at the twinkling stars above, steeling himself for the unknown.

Snowflakes dance in the air as Little Pine leaves the only home he’s ever known. His heart pounds with excitement and fear as the forest recedes, replaced by open fields, glittering rivers, and distant rooftops. "So this is the world beyond," he whispers, awestruck by every sight.

The warmth of the room glows on his needles, and the scent of cinnamon fills the air. For the first time, Little Pine feels a sense of belonging beyond the forest. "Perhaps this too is a kind of magic," he thinks, his dream fulfilled in a way he never imagined.
