Jesus sat with his twelve friends, called disciples. He smiled as he broke the bread and passed it around. "Take and eat this bread. When you do, remember me and how much I love you!" Everyone took a piece. Then Jesus shared a cup of juice, telling his friends to remember him every time they drank. The friends didn’t know, but this was a very special meal.
Jesus asked his friends to stay awake and pray, but they felt sleepy. "I need to talk to God," he whispered, kneeling by a big rock. Suddenly, some soldiers marched into the garden with torches. One friend, Peter, got scared and tried to protect Jesus by swinging his sword—oops! He cut off a guard's ear! Jesus quickly picked up the ear and gently put it back on the guard, making it all better. "No more fighting," he said kindly.
Jesus was taken to a hill outside the city. The soldiers put him on a big wooden cross, and he hung there with two others. It was sad and quiet, but Jesus looked at the people and said, "Father, forgive them. They don’t know what they’re doing." Even though it hurt, Jesus was still loving and kind.
Mary and her friends felt very sad as they walked away. Some Roman guards stood in front of the tomb, looking bored and trying not to fall asleep. The garden was silent except for the chirping of crickets.
But when they got there, the stone was rolled away! The cave was empty—Jesus was gone. Two dazzling angels in bright clothes appeared and said, Angel[/@ch_4_d]"Why are you looking for Jesus here? He is not dead. He is alive!"[/@ch_4_d] [@ch_3]Mary gasped and covered her mouth in surprise.
"Hello, Mary! Go tell my friends I am alive," he said gently. Mary laughed and ran as fast as she could, almost tripping over her own feet. She shouted the good news to everyone, and soon, all of Jesus's friends were smiling, laughing, and hugging. Jesus had done something amazing—he showed everyone that love is stronger than anything, even death!
