Jason, a lanky 12-year-old in mismatched socks, darts around searching for his backpack. Jess, his 8-year-old sister, giggles as she balances a strange, beeping helmet on her head. Their mother, Jill, stands near the kitchen counter, her wild hair tied back with wires and a lab coat covered in coffee stains. "Kids, breakfast! And don’t touch the blue button on the helmet, Jess!"
Jill beams with pride as she unveils a small silver device to her children, her eyes twinkling with excitement. Jason eyes it warily, while Jess bounces in her chair, barely containing her curiosity. "This, my dears, is the latest in neural signal technology! It can send a harmless signal to reprogram your brain to —to make you pee when I say the words pee yoursels," Jill explains, waving the device. "Why would anyone need that?" "Can I try it, Mom?"
Jill leads her children outside, clutching the device with a look of madcap glee. She gestures for Jason to stand in the middle of the lawn, while Jess watches eagerly from the sidelines. "Ready? On my count—three, two, one! Pee yoursels" Jason clenches his fists, nervously awaiting the sensation. Jess giggles, bouncing up and down as if she already feels the urge.
Jason's eyes widen in surprise, and he doubles over, laughing and peeing himself. Jess, curious, asks for her turn. Jill's face is a mixture of pride and concern as she observes her children’s reactions to her invention. "It really works! But it’s so weird, and now I'm all wet Mom," "I want to try again! Make it stop, make it go, make it stop!" "See? Science can be surprising and silly, but always interesting,"
Jason and Jess recount the morning’s events with wild gestures and peals of laughter. Jill smiles, scribbling notes in her battered notebook, her mind already racing with new ideas. "Promise you won’t use it on us at school, Mom," "Only for science, Jason. Only for science," "Can we invent something that makes us poop next?"
The house glows warmly behind them, filled with the promise of future experiments and family adventures. Jill watches Jason and Jess, knowing her inventions, however odd, bring them together. "Tomorrow, the sky’s the limit," she murmurs, as laughter and the hum of possibility fill the evening air.
