Allie sat on her bed, clutching her lunchbox as her heart thudded in her chest. Today was the day she would face the unknown halls of Oakwood Elementary. Her eyes drifted to the window, where her puppy, Lambeau, lay basking in the golden sunlight.
"I wish you could come with me," Allie whispered, patting Lambeau's soft fur.
Lambeau trotted beside Allie, his tail wagging with every step. His presence was a comforting balm to Allie's jittery nerves. As they approached the school gates, Lambeau looked up at her, his eyes full of unwavering trust.
"You'll be right here when I get back, won't you?" Allie asked, her voice a mix of hope and uncertainty.
"Woof!" Lambeau barked, as if to promise her he would.
Allie took a deep breath as she stood before the imposing doors. Her fingers fiddled nervously with the straps of her backpack. The cacophony of voices surrounded her, but in her mind, she focused on Lambeau's reassuring bark.
"Here goes nothing," she murmured, stepping inside.
Allie found her seat and glanced around at the unfamiliar faces. Her teacher, Ms. Turner, smiled warmly and began introducing the day's activities. Slowly, Allie felt her apprehension melting away as she joined in.
"Welcome, everyone! Let's make this year unforgettable," Ms. Turner announced, her enthusiasm infectious.
Throughout the day, Allie discovered new friends and exciting lessons. By lunchtime, her earlier fears seemed distant memories, replaced by curiosity and laughter. She couldn't wait to share her adventures with Lambeau.
Allie emerged from the school, her eyes searching eagerly for her brave companion. There he was, Lambeau, wagging his tail furiously as he spotted her. She ran to him, enveloping him in a tight hug.
"I missed you so much!" Allie exclaimed, her heart full of joy.
"Woof!" was Lambeau's happy reply, his tail wagging as if to say he felt the same.
