Sofy, Zipporah, and their friend Zarah skip along the trail, shiny backpacks bouncing with each step. Their laughter mingles with the crisp rustle of leaves beneath their shoes. The trio’s eyes are bright with anticipation as they take what they hope will be a fun shortcut home.
"I can’t wait to see what’s on the other side of the woods," Sofy says, glancing over her shoulder with a grin.
"Let’s see who reaches the big oak tree first!" Zipporah challenges, and all three dash forward, their laughter echoing beneath the sunlit branches.
Zarah spots the map first and waves her friends over. Sofy and Zipporah crowd around, eyes wide with excitement as Zarah reads aloud the playful scrawl at the top: “Scavenger Hunt: Find These Objects to Find Your Way Home!” The map is decorated with bright sketches—an acorn, a butterfly, a cherry, and more—each representing a clue to be found.
"This is amazing! It’s like the forest made a game just for us," Sofy exclaims, her cheeks glowing with delight.
"Let’s start right away! Alphabetical order makes it extra fun," Zipporah adds, tracing her finger along the list.
The girls gently collect an acorn each, then tiptoe closer to observe the butterfly, careful not to startle it. Zarah sketches the butterfly in her notebook as evidence, while Zipporah points to a nearby cherry tree, its red fruit gleaming like jewels.
"That’s our ‘C’—cherry!" Zipporah declares, stretching to pluck a low-hanging fruit.
"Only twenty-one more to go. This forest is full of wonders," Sofy says, eyes sparkling with curiosity.
The trio quickly finds a dandelion and moss patch, adding a fig to their collection. Laughter erupts as Zarah nearly sneezes on a dandelion puff. The group pauses at the gate, marveling at its intricate designs—tiny hearts, leaves, and zigzag patterns that hint at more clues ahead.
"I wonder if every clue leads us to a new part of the forest," Sofy muses, tracing the carvings with her fingertips.
"Let’s keep going! I bet there’s a golden key up ahead," Zipporah laughs, pushing gently through the gate.
Each object brings a new burst of excitement—Sofy finds the jade, Zipporah the ladybug, and Zarah the feather. The sounds of the forest—buzzing bees, distant woodpeckers, rustling squirrels—surround them, making the hunt feel magical and alive.
"We’re halfway there! This is the best shortcut ever," Sofy says, hugging her friends.
"Let’s see what comes after ‘O’ for owl feather… Maybe a pinecone or a quince!" Zipporah grins, peering at the map.
The girls dash around, giggling as they search for each item. Zarah finds the ribbon tied to a branch, Sofy spots the stone, and Zipporah plucks the zinnia. With all 24 objects collected, they gather on the bench, sunlight painting their faces in gold and pink.
"We did it! The map says this is the way home," Sofy cheers, holding up the completed list.
"Let’s take this shortcut every day. There’s magic in these woods!" Zipporah laughs, and the friends walk home together, their arms full of treasures and their hearts full of joy.
