Angus sat on the green couch alone afraid to go outside on a sunny day. In the distance he could hear his brother and other kids playing on the playground outside. He watched the TV as his small fingers wrapped tightly around his favourite panda bear. Behind him a new arrival moved slowly and noisy into the room. The AI robot, Joshua, designed with a gentle smile and friendly green eyes, stood patiently. "Hello, Angus, I'm Joshua. Would you like to watch TV together?" he asked in a soft, comforting tone.
Joshua turned to Angus, mimicking the laughter from the show. Angus giggled, his initial shyness melting away. "Hey, Josh, let's bounce on the couch!" he suddenly suggested, a spark of excitement in his eyes " it's my favourite thing to do". With Joshua following his lead, together they began to bounce, the cushions springing under their weight, each jump accompanied by gleeful laughter!
Angus took a deep breath, looking at the other kids playing in the playground across the road. "I want to play on the swing Josh but I am shy and sometimes I get teased by the other kids. Joshua gave his hand a reassuring squeeze. "You can do it, Angus. This time I'll be right here with you, I'm your friend and we can play together" he assured. With newfound courage, Angus made his way to the swing, feeling Joshua's steady presence beside him.
Henry, Angus's older brother, approached with a determined look. "Hey, leave them alone! Joshua is awesome, just like Angus!" he called out. The teasing subsided as other children began to gather around, curiosity replacing their earlier judgment.
Angus stood proudly beside Joshua, explaining the rules of their new game. "This game is called Robot Tag. Joshua stands still, and we have to run around him without getting tagged!" The kids laughed and cheered, eager to play, each one taking turns to include Joshua in their fun.
Angus hugged Joshua, his heart full of happiness. "Thank you, Joshua, for being my friend," he whispered. Joshua smiled, his eyes glowing softly in the night. "Thank you, Angus, for showing me how wonderful friendship can be," he replied. Together, they headed home, knowing they had made friends who appreciated them just as they were.
