Emma, a curious, adventurous girl with tangled brown hair, tiptoed through the dew-soaked grass, her eyes wide with wonder. She clutched a worn notebook, always ready to record new discoveries. Her younger brother, Liam, trailed behind, his laughter echoing as he chased butterflies, unaware of what awaited them beyond the thicket.
A glimmer of emerald scales caught Emma's eye. She stopped in her tracks, heart pounding, as the shape of a small dragon, no bigger than a sheepdog, emerged into the light. Its wings shimmered with every color of the rainbow, and it blinked at her uncertainly.
"Emma, look! Is that a… dragon?"
"Stay calm, Liam. I think it’s more scared of us than we are of it," she whispered, extending a cautious hand.
Willow (Young Forest Dragon, shy and gentle) regarded the siblings with wide golden eyes, her tail nervously curling around her feet. Emma gently set down her notebook, kneeling in the grass. Liam offered a handful of berries, his hand trembling.
"Are… are you here to play?" Willow’s voice, soft as a breeze, echoed in their minds.
Emma sketched quick drawings of Willow, her excitement growing with every new discovery—how Willow’s scales turned sapphire in the shade, or the gentle way she nuzzled Liam's hand. "I never knew dragons could be so… friendly," he grinned, twirling through the grass.
"Most humans never try to know us," Willow replied, her eyes shining, "But you are different. I can show you the secret parts of the forest, if you promise not to tell."
Emma traced the glowing symbols, awestruck. Liam splashed in the stream while Willow showed them how to listen for the songs of the trees.
"We promise, Willow. Your secret is safe with us," Emma said solemnly, feeling the weight of their new friendship.
"Then you are true friends," Willow smiled, her wings unfurling in joy, "And friends always have adventures together."
With a gentle nuzzle, Willow promised to meet them again whenever the sun touched the tallest tree. Emma hugged her brother, their hearts full of excitement and gratitude for the magical friendship they had found.
"I can’t wait to come back," Liam whispered, his eyes shining as they disappeared into the twilight, leaving the dragon’s laughter echoing among the trees.
