Lila sat on the porch, her legs swinging as she hugged a small, worn-out teddy bear. The morning light glistened in her eyes, but her heart felt heavy. Today marked a week since her father had gone away, and everything seemed different.
"I miss you, Daddy," she whispered, looking up at the sky.
Lila took out a sheet of paper, her crayons scattered around her. Writing letters to her father had become her way of feeling close to him. She doodled a heart in the corner and began to write.
"Dear Daddy, today I played in the garden, and it made me think of you. I remember how we used to plant sunflowers together." She paused, imagining his laughter filling the room.
Lila walked to the park with her mother, Emily, who gently held her hand. Emily was a kind woman with warm eyes, always ready to offer a comforting hug.
"You know, sweetie, everyone here is like our big family," she said, gesturing around. Lila nodded, feeling grateful for the smiles and waves from the familiar faces around her.
Lila shared tales of her father's adventures, his silly jokes, and the fun times they had together. The laughter of her friends filled her with warmth, like a cozy blanket wrapping around her.
"He was the best at making shadow puppets," she said, smiling at the memory.
Lila and Emily sat together, watching the sun dip below the horizon. The garden was alive with the gentle hum of crickets and the soft rustle of leaves.
"It's okay to feel sad sometimes, but it's also okay to find happiness in our memories," Emily said, squeezing Lila's hand.
Lila nodded, feeling a sense of peace as she watched the stars begin to twinkle in the evening sky.
Lila stood by the flowerbed, a smile spreading across her face as she noticed the sunflower. It reminded her of new beginnings and the love that always surrounded her.
"Thank you, Daddy," she whispered, feeling his presence in the gentle morning breeze.
