Lila, a little girl with tangled brown hair and dirt-smudged cheeks, kneels by the garden bed. She digs small holes with a red plastic trowel, her eyes shining with hope. Birds chirp in the maple tree overhead, as if cheering her on.
"I promise I'll help you grow big and strong," she whispers to the seeds before tucking them gently into the earth.
Lila returns every day, watering her garden and watching eagerly. One morning, she notices a line of ants marching past her marigolds. Their shiny black bodies glisten in the sunlight as they carry crumbs and leaves.
"Hello, little ants. Are you here to help?" she asks, her voice full of wonder.
Mina the Ladybug, with her scarlet shell dotted in black, lands on Lila’s finger. Lila giggles, marveling at the ticklish sensation.
"We keep your garden safe from hungry bugs," Mina says in a tiny, cheerful voice only Lila can hear.
"Thank you, Mina. I’m glad you’re here," Lila replies.
Lila presses her nose to the window, worried for her new friends. As the storm rages, she spots Benny the Worm, struggling to stay above the muddy water.
"Hold on, Benny! I’ll help you!" she calls, dashing outside with a tiny umbrella.
Lila gently scoops Benny and places him back in the soft soil. The ants, ladybugs, and bees gather around her, buzzing and chirping their gratitude.
"Thank you, Lila. You saved me!"
"We’re friends. Friends help each other," she replies, her heart happy and full.
Lila sits in the middle of her blooming haven, surrounded by her tiny friends. Together, they watch butterflies flutter and dragonflies dance in the golden light. In her garden, Lila knows she will never be alone, for she has grown a world full of friendship and wonder.
