Oliver sat curled up on the couch, his favorite teddy bear clutched in his arms. His mother, Sarah, sat beside him, her arm wrapped around his shoulders as she looked at the vase of daisies.
"Today we are going to say goodbye to Grandpa," Sarah explained softly. Oliver nodded, his brow furrowed with a mix of curiosity and sadness.
Oliver helped Sarah place cookies into a box, their hands moving in unison. He glanced at the picture, memories of laughter and stories flooding his mind. "Will Grandpa be able to eat cookies in heaven?" he asked, his voice tinged with hope.
"I believe he will have all his favorite treats there," Sarah replied with a gentle smile, "and he'll be watching over us, always."
Oliver leaned his head against the window, watching the scenery pass by. Sarah drove with a calm steadiness, her eyes occasionally flicking to the rearview mirror to check on him.
"It's okay to feel sad," she said softly, "but remember all the happy times we had with Grandpa." Oliver nodded, feeling comforted by her words.
Oliver stood beside Sarah, holding her hand tightly. A sense of peace surrounded them as the pastor spoke kind words about Grandpa's life.
Uncle Ben, a tall man with a kind smile, approached and knelt beside Oliver. "Your Grandpa was very proud of you," he said, placing a hand on Oliver's shoulder.
Oliver sat with Sarah on a bench near the oak tree, their hands still intertwined. The sounds of laughter and conversation from the gathering lingered in the air.
"I'm going to miss Grandpa," Oliver said, his voice soft.
"We all will," Sarah replied, "but he'll always be in our hearts and memories."
Oliver looked up at the stars, feeling a sense of wonder. Sarah wrapped her arm around him, pulling him close as they watched the twinkling lights above.
"Do you think Grandpa can see the stars too?" Oliver asked.
"I think he's watching the same stars, smiling down on us," Sarah replied softly. Oliver nodded, comforted by the thought as they sat together, embracing the night.
