Dora, a brave young explorer with a curious heart, walked carefully down the path with Boots, her cheerful monkey friend in red boots. They had been talking happily, but the strange sounds around them made both of them slow down and look over their shoulders. Suddenly, ghostly shapes drifted out from behind the trees, glowing white in the fading light, and "I was right all along! There really are ghosts!"
Boots grabbed onto Dora's arm, trembling as the ghosts drifted closer with soft moaning sounds. "Dora, let’s run for our lives right now, because those ghosts are way too scary and I do not want them following us down the path!" Without wasting another second, Dora and Boots turned and raced away as fast as they could, their footsteps pounding the dirt trail.
Geo Umizoomi, a clever helper with a talent for solving problems, looked up as Dora and Boots came rushing in, breathless and wide-eyed. "Geo Umizoomi, we saw ghosts by the bridge, and they scared us so much that we ran all the way here because we did not know what else to do!" Geo Umizoomi listened carefully, then smiled with a thoughtful look and said, "If ghosts are scaring you, then maybe we can scare the ghosts away instead, and I think I know exactly how to do it."
Geo Umizoomi led Dora and Boots to the basket and pulled out their lost ghost costumes, white and fluttery and perfect for a spooky surprise. Boots's eyes widened with hope, and "Our lost ghost costumes! If we wear these and say boo really loudly, maybe the ghosts will think we are even scarier than they are!" Dora nodded, and the three friends quickly put the costumes on, their faces glowing with courage.
Dora, Boots, and Geo Umizoomi stepped out together in their ghost costumes, moving slowly through the mist. The real ghosts turned toward them, confused by the fluttering white shapes approaching from the darkness. Then all at once the three friends shouted, "Boo!" "Boooo!" "Boo, ghosts, boo!"
The ghosts got scared by ghosts, or at least by what they thought were ghosts, and they ran for their lives as fast as they could. Dora threw back her costume hood and laughed with relief, while Boots clapped his hands excitedly beside her. "Yay!" "Yay!" "Yay!"
When Dora got home, she hurried to tell Mom, her caring mother, all about the ghosts, the running, and the clever costume plan. "Mom, Boots and I got scared by ghosts, and I screamed that I was right all along, but then we found Geo Umizoomi, and he helped us use our lost ghost costumes to scare the ghosts away!" Mom smiled proudly and gave Dora a warm hug, happy that courage and teamwork had turned a frightening night into a story worth cheering about.
