Spookly gazes at the other ghosts swooping and swirling, sending chills through the air as children hurry past, giggling and shrieking.
"I wish I could scare people too," he whispers, his translucent cheeks faintly glowing with hope.
Gloomy Greg, a large, smoky ghost, floats up to Spookly and shakes his head.
"Try again, Spookly! Scaring is what ghosts do best,"
"Boo...?" Spookly tries, but his voice comes out soft and sweet, causing a group of squirrels to giggle instead of run.
"Maybe I’m not meant to be scary," he says, hugging himself as a lonely owl hoots.
Whisper, a tiny firefly, hovers nearby.
"Don’t give up, Spookly. You have something special inside,"
"Maybe tonight, I’ll try one more time,"
He floats lower, heart fluttering, as a group of children gather for a ghost story.
The children gasp, eyes wide, then burst into giggles and claps.
Lila, a girl dressed as a wizard, beams at Spookly.
"That was the friendliest scare ever! You scared us, but made us smile too!"
Spookly glows brighter, proud at last.
"You did it, Spookly! Scaring can be sweet and fun, too,"
"I’m the ghost that could!" Spookly cheers, floating happily among his new friends, his gentle scare remembered by all.
