Dora and Boots were walking home together, chatting happily after their adventure, when the forest suddenly felt colder and strangely still. A hollow moan drifted between the trees, and both of them froze as a white ghost floated out from behind a crooked tree stump, its eyes glowing in the dim light. "Boots, did you see that ghost too? It came out of nowhere, and I think it wants to scare us!" "I saw it, Dora, and I do not want to stay here one more second because that ghost looks really spooky!"
The ghost swayed in the air and let out another long, eerie wail that echoed through the woods. Dora grabbed Boots’s hand, and together they ran down the path as fast as they could, their feet kicking up leaves behind them. "Run, Boots, run! We have to find someone who can help us before the ghost follows us all the way home!"
Geo Umizoomi looked up from his neat stack of glowing blocks just as Dora and Boots came rushing into the clearing, breathless and wide-eyed. Geo Umizoomi was clever and brave, always ready to solve a problem with a smart plan. "Whoa, you two look really frightened. Tell me everything that happened, and maybe I can help you figure out what to do next."
Dora took a deep breath and pointed back toward the darkening woods while Boots shivered beside her. "A ghost jumped out and scared us so badly that we ran all the way here, and now we are afraid it might come near our house!" "It floated and moaned and looked so creepy, and I do not want it sneaking up on us again tonight!" Geo Umizoomi tapped his chin, then smiled as an idea sparkled in his eyes. "If that ghost likes scaring people, then maybe we can turn the surprise around and scare the ghost instead."
Geo Umizoomi led Dora and Boots to a costume box full of Halloween things, and soon the three friends were searching through it with excited hands. They remembered how Mr. Owl, Bubble Puppy, and other friends had worn ghost costumes on Halloween nights to playfully scare the Bubble Guppies, Franklin the turtle and friends, and many others. "Let us make the biggest, flutteriest ghost costumes we can, so when that ghost comes back, it will think a whole crowd of spooky ghosts is waiting for it."
Dora wrapped herself in a soft white sheet with round eye holes, and Boots wore a smaller sheet that swished around his feet as he hopped. Geo Umizoomi added glowing stars and moon shapes to his costume, making it shimmer in the dark like a magical Halloween spirit. "I still feel a little scared, but I also think this is going to be funny when the ghost sees us all dressed up!" "We can do this together, Boots, because we are brave when we help each other."
The three friends crouched quietly behind bushes and flower pots, listening for any sign that the ghost had followed them. Every creak of a branch made Boots jump, but Dora gently patted his shoulder while Geo Umizoomi peeked toward the gate. Then, just as the wind gave a long sigh, the ghost drifted into the yard, pale and floating, with the same spooky moan as before. "It came back, Dora, it really came back, and now my tail is shaking again!"
Geo Umizoomi whispered for everyone to stand tall and wave their ghostly costumes wide. The white sheets billowed in the moonlight, and the glowing decorations on Geo Umizoomi’s costume sparkled so brightly that the yard looked full of strange Halloween spirits. "Now, friends, let us give our biggest ghostly howl all at once and show this ghost that it is not the only spooky one around here!"
Dora, Boots, and Geo Umizoomi jumped out together and waved their arms with a loud, playful cry. "Booooo! We are the ghosty ghosts of Halloween night, and we are here to surprise spooky ghosts who like to scare everybody else!" "Booooo! If you thought you were scary, just wait until you see how spooky we can be when we work as a team!"
The ghost gasped, spun around in the air, and shook from top to bottom as if it had never expected to be frightened itself. It let out a squeaky yelp instead of a moan, then turned and fled across the yard and down the path, racing for its life just as fast as Dora and Boots had done earlier. "It worked! That ghost was scared by ghosts, and now it is the one running away into the night!" "Yay! We did it, and now the ghost will not bother us at home anymore!"
Inside the house, Dora hurried to find Dora’s Mom, her face bright with relief and excitement after the strange adventure. Dora’s Mom was kind and calm, and she listened closely as Dora explained everything from the first scare in the woods to the clever costume plan that sent the ghost running away. "Mom, a ghost scared me and Boots in the forest, but then Geo Umizoomi helped us wear ghost costumes, and we scared the ghost away from our home!"
Dora’s Mom smiled proudly and gave Dora a warm hug while Boots grinned and Geo Umizoomi stood proudly nearby. "I am so glad you all stayed brave, helped one another, and found a smart way to turn a scary moment into a happy ending." The house felt cozy and peaceful again, and outside, the moon shone over the quiet path where the frightened ghost had disappeared into the distance. "Tonight was scary at first, but it turned into a great adventure, and I am so happy everything is safe again. Yay!"
