Dora and Boots tiptoed through the forest, their eyes wide as they clung to each other. Every sound seemed louder at night, and their path was barely visible in the silvery gloom.
"Did you hear that, Boots? Something's following us!"
"I did, Dora! I think it’s a ghost!"
Dora and Boots froze as the ghostly shape drifted closer. Their hearts pounded, and they turned to run, stumbling over roots and fallen branches.
"Run, Boots, run!"
"I'm right behind you, Dora! Don't look back!"
Dora and Boots burst through the door, breathless and shaking. Geo looked up in surprise, his blue helmet shining under the lantern light.
"Geo! We saw a ghost in the woods—it chased us all the way here!"
"A ghost? Tell me everything you saw. We'll solve this mystery together!"
The trio moved cautiously, Geo’s steady light making the shadows seem less menacing. They followed the clues, stopping at the old bridge where the ghost had appeared. In the beam of the flashlight, something caught their attention on a low-hanging branch.
"Look, Dora! That’s the same white cloth we saw waving in the dark."
"And those footprints are too small for a ghost," Geo observed thoughtfully.
A gasp escaped Dora and Boots as they recognized their friend. Benny’s cheeks turned red as he lowered the makeshift ghost costume.
"I’m sorry, everyone! I just wanted to play a joke, but I didn’t mean to scare you so much."
"Oh, Benny! You really had us fooled," Dora laughed, relief washing over her.
Geo patted Benny on the back, and Dora and Boots joined in, their fear forgotten.
"Next time, let’s play a game that doesn’t involve ghosts!"
"Deal! And thanks, Geo, for helping us solve the case," Boots added, as they all walked home together, ready for their next adventure.
