Ethan burst out of the front door, his backpack swinging wildly as he sprinted towards the bus. "Wait for me!" he shouted, but the bus roared away, leaving him standing at the curb, breathless and defeated.
Geoffrey the Giraffe lifted his head as Ethan approached, a smile spreading across the boy's face. "Looks like it's you and me today, buddy," he said, patting Geoffrey's long neck affectionately.
As they trotted down the sidewalk, neighbors waved and smiled. Ethan grinned back, feeling a sense of adventure. "Let's take the scenic route," he suggested, and Geoffrey nodded as if he understood.
Ethan and Geoffrey passed by a group of children playing tag, who paused to stare in awe. "Wow, a giraffe!" one of them exclaimed, eyes wide with wonder.
Ethan patted Geoffrey's neck, feeling grateful for his tall friend. "Almost there, buddy," he said, as Geoffrey picked up the pace, eager to reach their destination.
Ethan waved goodbye to Geoffrey, who watched him go with a serene look. "Thanks for the ride, Geoffrey. See you after school!" he called over his shoulder, running towards the school entrance with a heart full of joy.
