Lucy, a bright-eyed girl with an adventurous spirit, sat cross-legged on the soft carpet, a book open in front of her. Her dog, Biscuit, a fluffy golden retriever with an ever-wagging tail, lay beside her, his head resting on her lap. "I wish I could read like Mom does, Biscuit," Lucy sighed, gently scratching Biscuit's ears.
Lucy traced her finger over the words, her brow furrowed in concentration. Biscuit nudged her arm with his nose, as if encouraging her to keep trying. "Let’s see... C-a-t," she sounded out slowly, glancing at Biscuit for reassurance. "Woof!" Biscuit barked softly, his tail thumping against the floor.
Lucy sighed heavily, closing the book with a soft thud. Biscuit lifted his head, eyes filled with understanding. "I just can't do it, Biscuit. The words don't make sense," she lamented, feeling defeated. Biscuit, sensing her distress, sat up and licked her face, causing Lucy to giggle.
With renewed determination, Lucy opened the book once more, the morning light brightening the room. Biscuit settled next to her, his presence calming and steady. "I can do this," she whispered to herself. Slowly, she began to sound out the words again, Biscuit watching her intently as if he understood the importance of this moment.
Lucy's voice grew stronger with each word she read, a smile spreading across her face. Biscuit stood up, his tail wagging furiously as if to cheer her on. "The cat sat on the mat," she read aloud, the words flowing more easily now. "I did it, Biscuit!" Lucy exclaimed, throwing her arms around her furry friend.
Lucy danced around the room, Biscuit bouncing along beside her, both reveling in her triumph. The room, once a place of frustration, now echoed with laughter and joy. "Thank you, Biscuit. You're the best reading buddy ever," Lucy declared, planting a kiss on Biscuit's head. Together, they settled back down, ready to explore more stories, one page at a time.
