Lila sat curled up at the edge of her bed, her knees drawn tightly to her chest. The world outside seemed as dreary as she felt inside, with raindrops racing down the window like silent tears. She reached out to touch her bear, hoping it would bring comfort, but the sadness weighed heavily on her heart.
Mother, a gentle woman with tired eyes, watched her daughter quietly nibble on a piece of bread.
"Lila, would you like to come to the park with me today? The rain is stopping soon,"
"I'm not sure, Mama. I just want to stay here," replied Lila, her voice barely above a whisper.
Lila finally steps outside, her small boots splashing into a puddle. She notices a tiny snail crawling along the garden path, its shell glimmering like a pearl in the sunlight.
"Hello, little snail. Where are you going?" she murmurs, kneeling to watch its slow, determined journey.
Lila wanders to a bench beneath a blossoming cherry tree, her eyes drawn to the petals drifting down like pink snow. A friendly golden retriever bounds over, wagging its tail and dropping a stick at her feet.
Max, the dog, looks up with expectant eyes.
"Woof!"
"Did you bring me this?" Lila smiles faintly for the first time that day, tossing the stick and watching Max chase after it.
A little girl with curly hair approaches Lila.
Emma, cheerful and kind, offers a hand.
"Do you want to play with us? We're building a fairy house under the tree!"
"Maybe just for a little while," Lila replies, her voice a shade brighter.
For the first time in a long while, Lila feels a small spark of joy. She looks up at the sky, noticing a silver lining along the edge of a passing cloud.
"Maybe tomorrow will be even better," Lila whispers, hope blooming quietly in her heart.
