Maryam loved being a big sister. She was seven years old and very responsible (at least, that’s what she told Baba and Mamma). Her little brother, Yusuf, was three, full of energy, and excellent at making messes. One sunny morning, Maryam and Yusuf were playing in the backyard while Baba read his newspaper and Mamma baked something that smelled delicious. Suddenly, Yusuf gasped.
"Maryam! LOOK!"
He pointed at a big tree.
"A HONEY TREASURE CAVE!"
Maryam squinted.
"Yusuf… that’s a beehive."
Yusuf jumped up and down.
"BEES MAKE HONEY! I WANT HONEY!"
Baba looked up from his newspaper.
"Ah, but you can’t take honey without the bees’ permission. Bees work very hard for it."
Yusuf's eyes widened.
"BEES CAN TALK?!"
Baba chuckled.
"Not like us. They do a special dance."
Yusuf gasped even louder.
"A SECRET BEE LANGUAGE?!" He turned to Maryam. "We need to go on a honey adventure!"
Mamma peeked out the window.
"No climbing trees, young adventurers! But there’s another way to get honey…"
Maryam's eyes sparkled.
"How?"
Mamma winked.
"That’s for you to discover."
And so, the Great Honey Adventure began!
Maryam and Yusuf tiptoed toward the tree. Yusuf cupped his hands around his mouth.
"OH MIGHTY BEES! MAY WE HAVE SOME HONEY, PLEEEEASE?"
The bees kept buzzing, completely ignoring them. Yusuf frowned.
"They’re being rude."
Maryam tapped her chin.
"Maybe they don’t understand us. We need… A DISGUISE!"
She ran inside and returned with a yellow blanket.
"Now we look like a GIANT BEE!"
Yusuf wobbled under the blanket.
"BZZZ! BZZZZ!"
A single bee landed on Yusuf's nose. He froze.
"MARYAM," he whispered, eyes crossing. "IS HE GOING TO STING ME?!"
The bee wiggled its legs, then flew away. Maryam grinned.
"He was just saying hi."
Yusuf wiped his forehead.
"Phew! That was close."
Maryam sighed.
"Okay, talking to them didn’t work. Time for PLAN BEE!"
They ran to Baba.
"How do we make bees happy?"
Baba stroked his beard.
"Bees love flowers. If you plant some, they might share their honey."
Maryam gasped.
"That’s GENIUS."
Yusuf blinked.
"What’s genius?"
"It means we’re BRILLIANT!"
Yusuf spun in a circle.
"I LOVE BEING BRILLIANT!"
Mamma helped them plant colorful flowers near the tree. They said, “Bismillah” before they started, then patted the soil and watered the seeds. Yusuf clapped his hands.
"Now we wait ten seconds!"
Maryam shook her head.
"It takes weeks."
Yusuf's jaw dropped.
"WEEKS?! I’LL BE A GROWN-UP BY THEN!"
Maryam rolled her eyes.
"Fine. Let’s find something fun to do while we wait."
The next day, the flowers weren’t grown yet, and Yusuf's patience was GONE.
"I have a new idea," he whispered. "We CLIMB THE TREE."
Maryam gasped.
"Mamma said NO CLIMBING."
Yusuf put his hands on his hips.
"Then how did Baba get the cookies from the top shelf last night?"
Maryam squinted.
"…He used a stool."
"EXACTLY."
Five minutes later, they dragged Baba's stool outside and placed it under the tree. Yusuf climbed up, stood on his tiptoes… and wobbled.
Maryam gasped.
"Yusuf, be careful!"
Too late. The stool tipped. Yusuf fell backward.
"AAAH—oh wait, this is fun!" He landed in a pile of laundry Mamma had put out to dry. Baba walked over, arms crossed.
"Hmm. Trying to sneak honey, are we?"
Maryam and Yusuf froze.
"…No?" Yusuf tried. Baba chuckled.
"Good effort. But remember, patience is key."
Mamma called from the house.
"Come inside! I have a surprise!"
Maryam and Yusuf ran inside to find Mamma holding a small jar of golden honey.
"Where did that come from?!" Maryam gasped. Mamma smiled.
"A kind beekeeper from the farm brought it. He said the bees near our house are the happiest he’s ever seen!"
Yusuf gasped.
"That means they LIKED our flowers!"
Baba nodded.
"When you do good, good comes back to you."
Mamma spread the fresh honey on warm bread. Maryam took a big bite and sighed.
"This is the yummiest honey ever."
Yusuf licked his fingers.
"Tastes like adventure!"
Baba chuckled.
"And kindness."
Mamma kissed their foreheads.
"And the lesson of today is: When you help others, Allah helps you. That’s the best treasure of all."
Maryam and Yusuf grinned. It had been the best adventure ever.
