Banana peeked nervously over the rim of the fruit bowl, his yellow skin tinged with worry. Nearby, Apple rolled anxiously back and forth, while Grape huddled between them, eyes wide.
"If we don't get out of here soon, we'll be chopped for breakfast!"
"We need a plan, and fast. I heard the cook humming about a fruit salad," Apple whispered, glancing toward the looming silhouette of the cook near the stove.
Grape tried to keep calm, his small size barely noticeable among his larger companions. Banana flexed his peel, trying to think of an escape route, while Apple eyed the window above the sink.
"Maybe we can roll off the counter and hide behind the flour jar," suggested Grape, voice trembling.
"And then what? We’ll be discovered eventually. We need to get out of the kitchen entirely," replied Banana, his tone desperate but determined.
With a shared nod, Apple edged closer to the rim. Banana leaned toward him, steadying their friend for the leap.
"On three. One... two... three!"
Apple launched himself, tumbling through the air, followed closely by Banana and the tiny Grape. They landed with a soft thud behind a sack of flour, hidden from view.
Grape shivered, glancing nervously at the shadows. Banana pressed his peel against the cool tile, listening for any sign of discovery.
"He’s getting closer," whispered Grape, voice barely audible.
"We need to reach the window. That’s our only hope," Banana urged, his resolve hardening. Apple nodded, eyes set on the sunlight spilling from the open sill.
The three friends scurried across the tile, sticking close to the baseboards. Apple led the way, rolling up the chair leg and motioning for the others to follow.
"Almost there! Help me up, Banana," called Apple as Banana boosted him onto the sill. Grape squeezed through a crack, heart racing with hope.
Banana landed with a triumphant thump on the soft earth, followed by Apple and Grape, who tumbled into a patch of clover.
"We made it! We're free!" Banana cheered, his voice echoing in the open air.
"No chopping board, no cook, just sunshine and adventure," Grape laughed, as the trio basked in their newfound freedom.
