Wyatt Jacob, a 10-year-old boy with black short hair, vivid green eyes, and fair skin, dashes down his driveway in his favorite blue T-shirt and jeans, his sneakers thumping against the pavement. He skids to a stop as a soccer ball bumps against his foot, glancing over his shoulder as if expecting an adventure to appear out of nowhere. In another world altogether, Jacob Shae, sixteen with red short hair and matching green eyes, sits on the edge of his bed, his orange hoodie vibrant against the pale gray walls of his room, gazing out the window at a sunset-lit skyline.
Wyatt Jacob chases after fireflies, grinning as their tiny lights blink in the air. Suddenly, a rippling shimmer, almost like heat haze, appears by the oak tree, drawing him closer with wide-eyed curiosity. Across universes, Jacob Shae stares in disbelief as his lamp’s light twists and brightens, forming a swirling portal right before his eyes.
Without warning, Wyatt Jacob tumbles forward, landing with a thud… in Jacob Shae’s bedroom, surrounded by posters of futuristic cities and gadgets he’s never seen. At the same moment, Jacob Shae stumbles out from behind the oak tree into Wyatt’s backyard, blinking at the unfamiliar setting and the distant sounds of children playing. Neither boy has switched bodies, but each now stands in the other’s world, their own minds reeling from the shock.
"Whoa… this place is like a science fiction movie! Where am I?"
Meanwhile, Jacob Shae walks cautiously through Wyatt’s backyard, bewildered by the simplicity and tranquility of the neighborhood. He glances down at his own orange hoodie, a bright contrast to the pastel houses and tidy lawns.
"I don’t belong here... but maybe someone can help me figure this out,"
Inside, Wyatt’s family laughs around the dinner table, but Jacob Shae hesitates, feeling like an intruder. In the other universe, Wyatt Jacob watches a hologram of Jacob’s parents, who seem to be off on some distant adventure, leaving him alone to investigate.
"If I got here, there must be a way back. Maybe if I find out what caused the swap, I can return,"
"This place is different, but maybe there’s something here I’m supposed to learn. I just have to be brave,"
Both boys steel themselves for the challenges ahead, ready to face the unknown in hopes of finding their way back to their own worlds—and perhaps discovering something new about themselves along the way.
