In the heart of the zoo, there was a large pond where a solitary hippo resided. The sun glinted off the water's surface as the hippo, known to everyone as Harry the Hippo, lounged grumpily at the edge. His eyes were half-closed, but every now and then, they would open to glare at the noisy visitors.
Milo, a curious little boy with a red baseball cap, leaned over the railing. "Hey, Mr. Hippo, why are you so grumpy?" he called out. Harry snorted, sending a spray of water towards the boy, who giggled in response. Harry's grumpiness was well-known, and he seemed to take pride in it, but Milo’s laughter was infectious.
Avery, the zookeeper, approached Harry’s pond with a bucket of fresh vegetables. "Come on, Harry, it's dinner time," she called. As Harry lumbered over to the food, Avery noticed something. "You're not really grumpy, are you? You just like the attention," she said with a knowing smile.
Harry munched on his vegetables, his demeanor more relaxed without the eyes of the visitors on him. Avery watched him with affection. "You know, Harry, you bring a lot of joy to the kids," she remarked. Harry huffed softly, as if acknowledging her words.
Harry lay back in his favorite spot near the pond, the water lapping gently at his side. He thought about the day, about Milo's laughter and Avery's words. Maybe being grumpy wasn't so bad if it meant he could make others happy. With a contented sigh, Harry closed his eyes, ready to dream of another day filled with laughter and sunshine.
