Franklin the Turtle ambled slowly across the playground, his backpack bobbing gently with each cautious step. Beside him walked his teacher, Mrs. Owl, her feathers slightly ruffled as the wind carried a chill. The usually cheerful schoolyard seemed unusually quiet—until a chilling, echoing wail drifted from the old gym, making both freeze in their tracks.
"Did you hear that, Mrs. Owl? It sounded like a ghost!"
"Oh dear, Franklin, let's not stick around to find out what it is!"
Franklin and Mrs. Owl hurriedly scampered across the yard, leaves crunching underfoot and hearts thumping fast. They didn't dare look back as the mysterious moaning grew louder, echoing through the empty lot. Bursting through the gate, they made a beeline for the open street, desperation etched on their faces.

Geo Umizoomi looked up, startled, as Franklin and Mrs. Owl skidded to a halt before him, panting and wide-eyed.
"Geo, you have to help us! There's a ghost in the gym!"
"A ghost? Don’t worry, team Umizoomi is on the case! Let’s investigate together."
Armed with a flashlight and trembling with anticipation, Franklin, Mrs. Owl, and Geo Umizoomi approach the gym’s entrance. Suddenly, the ghostly moan returns—louder and closer this time—making their knees knock together. The light flickers as a pale, shrouded figure glides into view, and all three shriek in terror.
"Run for your lives!"
Franklin’s mom, Mrs. Owl’s mother, and Geo’s mom listen intently as the kids recount their spooky ordeal. The kitchen is bright and safe, the scent of cookies filling the air and calming their nerves. The mothers exchange knowing glances and decide to investigate the gym themselves, determined to put an end to the mystery.
"Don’t worry, we’ll get to the bottom of this together," Franklin’s mom assures them.
With everyone’s courage combined, they approach the shrouded figure, who suddenly trips and loses their sheet. Laughter erupts as Benny the Beaver, Franklin’s mischievous friend, is revealed, clutching a walkie-talkie and a bedsheet. He sheepishly admits he was practicing for the Halloween play, and never meant to frighten anyone.
"I’m so sorry, everyone! I just wanted to make my ghost part super spooky,"
"Next time, let’s all rehearse together—and maybe warn us first!"
Pumpkins line the stage, cheerful banners flutter, and even Benny can’t help but smile as their friends join in. The once-frightening gym is now a place of giggles and teamwork. The adventure ends with hugs and promises to always face their fears together—with a little help from friends and family.
