Lassie, the beloved fire rescue dog, trotted alongside her handler, Firefighter Jan, as they began their routine patrol. The village was peaceful, the air filled with the sweet scent of tulips swaying gently in the breeze.
Firefighter Jan immediately sprang into action, grabbing his radio. Lassie sensed the urgency, her ears perked up, ready to respond. "Lassie, let's go!"
Lassie darted forward, weaving her way through the crowd. Her keen senses guided her to the door, which was ajar but blocked by fallen debris. Firefighter Jan followed closely, his voice steady and calm. "We need to clear a path," he urged.
Lassie nudged the crib with her nose, barking sharply to alert Firefighter Jan. He rushed in, scooping the baby into his arms as Lassie led the way back out.
The baby's mother rushed forward, tears of gratitude streaming down her face. "Thank you, Lassie. Thank you," she whispered, embracing both Jan and Lassie.
Mayor Van den Berg stood before the crowd, a smile on his face. "Today, we honor Lassie and Firefighter Jan for their bravery," he announced, presenting them with medals. Lassie barked appreciatively, her eyes shining with pride.
