Limo the fish flicked his tail playfully, glancing at Toto the turtle as bubbles drifted upwards. Toto swam in slow circles, his shell catching the sunlight in glimmering patterns.
"I wonder what Mrs. Starfish will teach us at school today. Maybe about the secret caves?"
"Or maybe we’ll get to race the dolphins again! I always love when we do that," replied Toto with a wide smile.
They giggled, knowing that whatever the day brought, they would share it together.
Limo hovered uncertainly beside Toto, his fins trembling slightly.
"Toto, my parents said we have to move far away. I don’t know when I’ll see you again," he murmured, trying to sound brave.
"But… but we’ve always been together, Limo," whispered Toto, his large eyes glistening with unshed tears.
They pressed close, the weight of goodbye hanging between them like a shadow.
Toto[/@ch_2] hides behind drifting sea fans and follows quietly, careful not to be seen.]
The ocean feels vast and unfamiliar, filled with the echoes of distant whale songs and the occasional snap of a crab’s claw. Toto keeps his eyes fixed on the glimmer of Limo’s tail, refusing to let his friend disappear from his sight.
"No matter how far you go, Limo, I won’t let you be alone," he whispers to himself, determination burning in his heart.
For two long days and nights, he swims tirelessly, his shell growing heavier but his spirit undaunted.
Limo gasps, joy lighting up his face as he recognizes Toto.
"Toto! You followed us all this way?"
"I couldn’t let you go alone, Limo. You’re my best friend. Besides, who else would remind you not to eat too many sea berries?"
Limo’s parents exchange astonished glances but soon smile, welcoming Toto with open fins and flippers.
Limo watches the sunset through the water, longing in his eyes.
"It’s beautiful here, Toto, but it doesn’t feel right. I miss our old school, the other fish, and all the places we used to explore,"
"I do too," replies Toto, laying a gentle flipper on Limo’s fin. "Maybe home isn’t just a place. Maybe it’s where we belong—with the friends and memories we share."
The school bells ring out, and laughter bubbles through the water as Limo and Toto reunite with their classmates. The two friends race among the dolphins, play in the sunbeams, and share stories of their adventure.
"No matter where we go, we’ll always find our way back together," Limo promises, his heart full of joy.
"Because that’s what best friends do," Toto replies, and together, they swim off into the sparkling blue, ready for whatever the ocean brings next.
