Maya, a petite girl with curly brown hair and sparkling eyes, sat in the middle of it all. Her tiny fingers meticulously lined up red and blue blocks, creating a towering castle. Liam, her playmate with a wide grin and tousled blond hair, eagerly added a new block to the structure.
"Look, Maya, it's almost as tall as you!" he exclaimed with excitement.
Maya's face reddened, and a storm brewed in her eyes. Her chest heaved with frustration as she struggled to find the words to express her anger.
"You... you ruined it!" she shouted, her voice cracking. In a flash of emotion, Maya swung her tiny hand, hitting Liam on the arm.
Ms. Emma, a kind woman with soft eyes and a calming presence, knelt beside them. "Maya, I see you're upset. But we use our words, not our hands, to show how we feel," she said soothingly.
Maya's eyes welled with tears, and her voice trembled. "I... I didn't mean to," she whispered, her anger giving way to regret.
Liam rubbed his arm, a small smile playing on his lips. "It's okay, Maya. I know you didn't mean it," he said, offering her a block from his pocket.
Maya accepted it with a shy smile, her heart lighter. "I'm sorry, Liam. Let's build something together," she suggested, hope rekindling in her voice.
Ms. Emma watched from afar, pleased to see Maya and Liam working together once more. She approached, carrying a tray of juice boxes, and handed them to the pair.
"Teamwork is always better, isn't it?" she encouraged with a wink.
Maya, sipping her juice, nodded with a newfound understanding. "Yeah, it is," she agreed, knowing that her journey of learning and growing had just begun.
Maya and Liam, now fast friends, waved goodbye to Ms. Emma as they left hand in hand, their hearts full of the day's lessons.
"See you tomorrow, Maya!" Liam called, his voice carrying promises of new adventures.
Maya waved back, her heart light and her spirit ready for tomorrow's discoveries. "See you, Liam!" she replied, knowing that with each day, she would become better at using her words and understanding the feelings of those around her.
