Gracie sat cross-legged on the plush carpet, her eyes wide with determination. Beside her, Ariana, her younger sister, hugged a stuffed rabbit, her face filled with curiosity. "Ariana, look! This word is 'cat'," Gracie exclaimed, pointing to the page with excitement.
Ariana furrowed her brow, trying to mimic her sister's enthusiasm. "Ca... cat," she repeated, her voice a soft whisper. Gracie nodded encouragingly, her smile bright enough to chase away the shadows of doubt.
"Let's try another one," Gracie suggested, flipping the page. "This is 'dog'," she explained, tracing the letters with her finger. Ariana giggled, her earlier hesitation replaced with growing confidence. "Dog!" she exclaimed, her voice ringing with newfound joy.
Gracie watched her sister with a proud smile. "We did it, Ariana," she whispered, her voice barely more than a breath. Ariana snuggled closer, her eyes fluttering shut. "I like reading," she murmured contentedly.
Gracie stretched, feeling the warmth of the sun on her face. Ariana yawned, her eyes blinking open to greet the new day. "Let's read more today," Gracie suggested, her voice filled with excitement for the adventures that awaited them in the pages of their books.
