Ayu skipped down the path, her eyes wide with excitement. Today was the day of the big family celebration, and she couldn't wait to help Nenek with the preparations.
"Nenek, what are we going to do first?"
Nenek smiled warmly as she handed Ayu a basket of freshly picked pandan leaves.
"We'll start by making kueh lapis, a special layered cake," she said, her eyes twinkling.
Ayu watched intently as Nenek expertly folded the pandan leaves into tiny packets.
"Nenek, these look like little green pillows!"
"Yes, Ayu, they do," Nenek chuckled, adding a pinch of coconut to each.
Ayu danced around, trying on a colorful kebaya while Nenek adjusted her selendang.
"I can't wait to perform the zapin dance, Nenek!"
"You'll be wonderful, Ayu. Remember to smile and enjoy every step," Nenek encouraged.
Ayu held Nenek's hand as they joined the celebration, surrounded by family and friends.
"Look at all the people, Nenek! It's so beautiful!"
"This is the joy of our culture, Ayu," Nenek replied, her heart full of pride.
Ayu rested her head on Nenek's shoulder, feeling content and happy.
"Thank you, Nenek, for teaching me about our traditions,"
"It's important to cherish our roots, Ayu. I'm glad you enjoyed it," Nenek whispered, embracing her granddaughter with love.
Ayu yawned, her eyes heavy with sleep as Nenek tucked her into bed.
"Goodnight, Nenek. I can't wait for our next celebration,"
"Goodnight, my dear Ayu. Sweet dreams," Nenek replied, turning off the light and leaving the door slightly ajar.
